If you know me, it won't be a revelation if I tell you that I've been involved in a pretty good number of political debates.. If you had seen any of those debates you would also know that most of those debates involve the other guy calling me some offensive name... I've become so used to it that I can time the point at which they'll use it.. It's almost a game.. In the past there have been times where I would give in and throw an insult back.. I've realized where it stems from..

People call names simply because they are unable to analyze their concerns or objections and out of frustration will result to personal offense.. Name calling is a blatant sign of a low analytical capacity and further indicates that you are probably wasting your time in that argument!

So, if you can't say anything nice.. Think about it and at least say something worth consideration... Please?!

After another strange run-in with the police, I thought it might be an interesting post.. Driving home last Thursday night I saw the familiar blue and red strobes flashing behind me in my rear view mirror. I knew I had been pushing my luck long enough with my registration and knew it was a matter of time before my car was towed and impounded.. Being on the merge point of I-80/I-15 I pulled over as far as possible to keep my civil servant from walking in the same lane as 80mph traffic.. Rolling my window down the conversation goes something like this..

Officer: What are you doing rolling around in a car with tags that expired 10 months ago?
Me: It didn't pass safety.
Officer: You know that car is coming with us right? You know its getting towed tonight..
Me: Yea, I figured it was about that time.. How do I get my car back?
Officer: You pay the tow fee, the impound fee.. you pay to get it registered and you pay the fine.. you're looking at about $800
Me: Ok..
Officer: All that because you didn't want to register your car...
Me: I tried.. I have my emissions certificate right here. The state would not pass safety because the highbeam glass is cracked.. The headlights work fine and this car is safe..
Officer: Look.. (mumbles what sounds like 'drive safe')

The officer walks back to his truck leaving me confused.. Did he say drive safe? Is he letting me go? Or just going to call the tow truck? I'm confused until I see the red and blue strobes extinguish.. Traffic clears and the officers car calmly drives away.. Lucky? Who knows..

Purchashed January of 2004, it has run consistently for nearly 4 years without fail on the same cheap 20 cent battery, while at the same time updating itself constantly with the correct time based off of the atomic clock in Colorado.

I called my father to wish him a happy birthday today, he was happy to tell me about the trumpet we all chipped in to buy. I didn't really know what kind of trumpet he was getting, but it turns out it was a rare 'Benge' trumpet, hand made, and played by a family friend, Charlier Turner, who was the first chair trumpet for Frank Sinatra. Interesting results have come in tonight for the Salt Lake mayoral primaries.

The two biggest spenders, Wilson and Christensen are out

Not sad to see this, Christensen dropped his R in front of his name to an I simply to pander to the Salt Lake democrats (a republican has not been elected Salt Lake mayor in 40 years), Like Buhler, I was disappointed to see Christensen put conservative values in the back seat in order to pander to the Demo's. He also repeatedly used an old rhetorical trick called 'disinterest' explaining how he was convinced to run for mayor through the urging of Mr. Rocky Anderson. (not his idea of course.. I'm sure Rocky also had to talk him into spending over $600,000 on his campaign)

Becker and Buhler are in:

I predicted neither of these candidates passing through the primaries. Becker always seemed unassuming and along with Buhler, they did not express much opinion.

Buhler ran his campaign accenting the fact that he really had no principles, and was so easy going he could work with anybody. Let's hope if elected he's not as much of a pushover as he likes to sound.

I'm also weary of how much Becker has staked his campaign on environmental issues. Although important, the city needs fiscal and financial health as well. He wants to spend our money on more and more trax lines to reduce commuter traffic, where if the demand for such lines were to be high enough, would be able to pay for itself. I'm also baffled again by his opposition to the skybridge which would allow more convenient access through downtown businesses and shopping attractions. Instead he claims disallowing the skybridge (which 70% of Utahns support) would 'open up' downtown. When this 'opening up' is actually just forcing shoppers to scurry about the streets trying to get to their next location because it would somehow be more pleasing for him. Besides these facts, it creeps me out how closely he resembles the devil on his campaign site: (http://www.ralphbecker.com/)

I was just considering the name of my patron designer is 'Ralph' as in Ralph Lauren has a first name you would stereotypicaly find on a blue collared shirt or overhear in a bowling alley, with a last name you might find on the wall of patrons at a distinguished university.

Would this compound work as a designer name in other combinations? Would we brag about our new shoes designed by Gus Wittington? Would sport a pair of jeans designed by Al Buckingham?

DIY: Replace Your Radiator

Replacing your own radiator will not only save you about $250, but gives you some good one-on-one time with your vehicle!

1) Buy a radiator.. You can get them from your dealer or local auto part store, I bought one online for about $175 including shipping.

2) Unbolt everything holding your radiator in. Out loose bolts in a container, and be careful not to drop any into your engine, thhis causes crying and cursing..

3) You will probably have to unbolt your fan from the belt assembly and remove your battery.

4) Remove all hoses attached to the radiator.. Be careful ESPECIALLY if you know there is still fluid in the radiator as it will EXPLODE out of the radiator as you remove the main hoses.

5) Get a good grip and rip everything out.

6) Simply insert your new radiator with the openings aligned with your disattached hoses.

7) Attach lower hoses.. You may need after market clamps as your new radiator may have larger or smalller hose ports

8) Bolt the radiator down and move in the fan assembly and plastic guard, reattaching the fan to the pulley asembly.

9) Reattach upper hoses making sure they are clamped tight.. Buy after market clamps if you have to!

10) Bolt radiator to the fan assembly, making sure the fan spins unobstructed.

11) Fill with fluid and you are done!

* This project took about 2 hours including a trip to the auto parts store for some extra hose and clamps. The new unit was not identical to the original so I had to cut some hose and replace short hose with longer.. I had to do some other small items of rigging but completed the job in a reasonable time with everyday tools.. And the best part is, so can you!

WASHINGTON — Police on Capitol Hill are baffled by an attempted robbery that began with a handgun put to the head of a 14-year-old girl and ended in a group hug.

It started around midnight on June 16 when a group of friends was finishing dinner on the patio of a District of Columbia home, authorities and witnesses said. That's when a hooded man slid through an open gate and pointed a handgun at the girl's head.

Give me your money, or I'll start shooting," he said, the witnesses told The Washington Post.

Everyone froze, they said, but then one guest spoke up.

"We were just finishing dinner," Cristina Rowan, 43, told the man. "Why don't you have a glass of wine with us?"

The intruder had a sip of their Chateau Malescot St-Exupery and said, "Damn, that's good wine."

The girl's father, Michael Rabdau, 51, told him to take the whole glass, and Rowan offered him the bottle. The would-be robber, with his hood down, took another sip and a bite of Camembert cheese and put the gun in his sweatpants.

Then the story got even more bizarre.

The man with the gun apologized, the witnesses told the Post.

"I think I may have come to the wrong house" he said. "Can I get a hug?"

Rowan stood up and wrapped her arms around the man and the four other guests followed.

The man walked away a few moments later with the crystal wine glass in hand. No one was hurt, but once he was gone, the group went inside, locked the door and called 911.

lI had a dream or maybe nightmare where or music teacher was in charge of picking who got to go first in line for a ride at the top of an 8 story building, then we were all outside on a bench where I was trying to tune my guitar but mine was the only one that wouldn't tune.. For some reason. I had the wrong strings, my music teacher decided to put us against each other by having a no rules street fight, so while the fight was beginning I was at the corner trying to buy as many weapons as possible for my team, it was taking to long so I was crawling to the top floor when along the way I battlled it out with a guy holding one of my friends hostage. After that I went to the top floor where the guy said I had to pay some $10,000 to buy the weapons... The end?

Nearly nine hours later, the 47-year-old gas station owner came back to earth in a farmer's field near Union, short of Idaho but about 193 miles from home.

He took off at 6:06 a.m. Saturday after kissing his wife, Susan, goodbye and petting his Chihuahua, Isabella. As he made about 25 miles an hour, a three-car caravan filled with friends, family and the dog followed him from below.

Couch said he could hear cattle and children and even passed through clouds.

"It was beautiful — beautiful," he told KTVZ-TV. He described the flight as mostly peaceful and serene, with occasional turbulence, like a hot-air balloon ride sitting down.

Couch is the latest American to emulate Larry Walters — who in 1982 rose three miles above Los Angeles in a lawn chair lifted by balloons. Walters had surprised an airline pilot, who radioed the control tower that he had just passed a guy in a lawn chair. Walters paid a $1,500 penalty for violating air traffic rules.

To fund the war congress made a serious error by printing nearly 200 million dollars worth of paper currency with hopes the states would buy the currency with state taxes.. Instead they followed their example and printed their own money! Prices went way up to match the supply of money. Their money became worthless.. The continental dolar becoming less valuable than a penny, even the states stopped accepting it for debts. Some states foolishly fixed prices which caused shortages which resulted in black markets which resulted in bribery and crime. Elderly living on fixed incomes (eg $200/month) became destitute as the price of living shot up thousands of percent. Creditors shut their doors rather than be paid in dollars that next week would be worth nothing.

One general washintons colonels begged wahington to take control and be king george I of america. Of all the sorrows washinton sawin the war he claimed this request as the greatest of all. I think he felt all the fighting was in vain as his army didnt value the freedom they had just fought and died for a they were actually asking or another king! They had been so used to thinking 'let king george take care of it' they werent ready for the responsibilities accompanying freedom
Washington was able to quell the rebellion with only a few words. While standing in front of his men, he pulled out a letter from the congress listing proposed solutions to their grievances.. Unable to read the small print he pulled out his spectacles and apologized saying 'Gentlemen, you will permit me to put on my spectacles,for u have not only grown gray but almost blind in the service of my country' immediatly tears sprang from his officers eyes and with this statement struck a powerful blow to the soldiers unrest
